Episode Fourteen (14) – “ Time with the old folk”

Yes! That’s a good idea. She can do that for me without me getting to meet Ms. Benson.

“Don’t worry, He’s gone already” I said. I had wanted to listen to what she had to tell me that had brought her all the way here.

I was so sure that it was about how my parents were treating me.

Wait a minute!!! Is she coming to tell that they are not my real parents. That was something I need to consider because who will tie up her child just because the child wants to be happy?

“Lust, I want you to be honest with me, promise” My grandmother said.

Then I nodded in response. As much as I was getting comfortable with her, I wasn’t ready to make any promises. I have reserved all my promises to my one true love Kobby.

“Let me tell you a story about a young man who traveled the whole world in search of a true love” my Grandmother begin.

As soon as she mentioned “love” my face lightened up.

“He kept on looking until she found one innocent young girl almost of the same age as you. They were so much in love with each other and decided to swear an oath. And you know what happened, The girl didn’t allow him and so this young man was left in tears and heart broken. Now tell me, if you were this young man, would you have married the girl” She asked.

“Hell no. To hell with the young lady. To hell with her. She has no love for the guy.” I answered.

“You have a point. But do you know what the girl told the guy?” Grandma asked.

“No” I answered.

“She said, if we love each other, we don’t need an oath which is mere words to keep us. We have no duty to honor any oath. We have duty to honor our ourselves. We should allow love to keep us and not oath” Grandma said.

I was so amazed at this and was touched. Does it mean Kobby and I didn’t do the right thing ? I asked myself.

“Before I finish my story, I am that young girl and your grandfather is that young man. So you see, we are together now! It’s not an oath that kept us but love” she said.

No! This is beautiful. I have to tell her about the covenant. She needs to know. Maybe that is why Kobby had changed towards me?

“Granny, there’s something you should know about Kobby and I” I said.

“Go on darling, tell me everything. That’s why I’m here” She said.

“We… Kobby … Kobby and I had ….” I begun to open up but suddenly she interrupted.

“If it’s about the covenant, I already know everything about it” She said to my surprise.
