Episode Eight (8) – “Bozanga”

“Kobby stop stop stop stop” I called out. Then suddenly I woke up. It was relief to see that I was dreaming.

My nightie was soaked in my own sweat. I felt tasty – then I took a glass of water. I just didn’t understand what was happening around me.

Why am I having this dream? And Kobby’s request was freaking me out like never before. I checked the time and it was just 2 am.

I laid back on the bed with my eyes fixed on the ceiling. Why is everything changing now? There have never been a tensed moment between Kobby and I.

We started our secret affair about a year ago when he mistakenly hit me with his “Bozanga” bicycle in our neighborhood.

I had been seeing him around though but nothing really sparked me up about him. He was just an ordinary guy until that faithful day.

I think I got a scratch on my left leg when he hit me with his bike. I remember he helped me up and I felt his gentle and soft palms. Then his fragrance was something that I won’t forget.

I believe that was what made me notice him. From there, everything began, we feel in love with each other and found a way of meeting secretly. Sometimes we met at the public borehole in our community.

You can imagine the look on his face when I told him his mother was once my teacher. He laughed so loud. Even he didn’t like to be taught by his mother. He was aware how strict his mother was.

There’s this one time, I needed to talk to Kobby over our plans for the upcoming community festival. I tried to sneak into their house but Jojo the dog kept barking here and there.

I hated that dog so much that I had wanted to even poisoned it if I only had the chance to. Everything between Kobby and I was just like what I saw in the romantic movies.

Just when I thought everything was going perfect, one morning, all of a sudden, mum took me to Accra to see my grandmother. And for a whole month, I had not seen Kobby.

I was helpless the entire time, until we came back. The first thing I did was to ran out of the house and headed straight to Kobby’s house.

Upon reaching there, I saw something different. There were guests all around the house and the main door was left open. There was some sought of event, with most of the guests in black and red like what they use to wear at funerals.

From distance, I saw Ms. Benson crying while being comforted by some others. It was obvious that someone had died in the family.

Before I could observe any longer, there was a tap on my shoulder from behind. I turned, and there he was, my Kobby.

To be Continued.
